Update: Spectrum and Trader Joe's also sell eggless mayonnaise.
If the store has a hot bar, try some fried ricemade without egg. It has some spices that not everyone might like, so try a small portion first.
Here's another way you can help hens, roosters, and chicks who suffer and are killed in the egg industry: don't buy chicken noodle soup. The meat in these soups is typically from "spent" and worn out laying hens: by eighteen monthsthe equivalent of a young adulttheir bodies are frail and full of osteoporosis, the result of intense confinement and hyper-induced egg laying rates.
The vast majority of the hens come from battery cage facilities, in which birds by the thousands are stuffed into dark sheds, in a network of wire cages; each hen has less space than a sheet of notebook paper in which to live. These hens often become crippled from mineral loss and near-total lack of exercise. They lose most of their feathers and develop skin abrasions from the constant scraping against the wire cage frame. In some cases, because they have no solid ground on which to walk, their claws become distended and wrap around the cage bars, and parts of their legs are left behind when they're hurriedly grabbed and put on a truck in preparation for slaughter.
Soup made from torture and cruelty is not good for the soul.
Update: Some hens' bodies are so battered they can't even be used for soup.
Tofu Scramble also comes in a Pocket Sandwich version (near bottom of the linked page). Not quite as tasty, but even more instant. Good for those "grab-n-go" days.
These cookies aren't super sweet like most chocolate chip cookies, which will be a blessing for many. Even if you like your cookies packed with sugar, try these; after the first bite, you might think, "hmm, not sweet enough," but by the fourth bite they'll be just right. Tip: For best results when placing the mixed batter on the pan to be baked, moisten your hand with some water, then for each cookie, grab a small amount of batter with your hand, squeeze it gently, put it on the pan, and shape it by hand.
Goodbaker mixes are vegan and use organic, whole-grain flour, which, as their materials point out, "slows the 'sugar rush' effect." All Goodbaker products "are free of cholesterol, trans fats, lactose, dairy, eggs, and bad karma." VegNews Magazine said: "these mixes are fantastic. Seriously."
This just in! Credible skeptics report that the Un-Egg McMuffin, or Non-Egg McMuffin, or Anti-Egg McMuffin, or whatever they call it at Sticky Fingers is delicious! This is worth coming to DC for!
And this! Natalia's Elegant Creations, a European-style café and pastry shop in nearby Falls Church, Virginia, features a vegan item every daylemon-coconut cake, maple-walnut cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, and a ton more varietiesand they are ASTOUNDING! (Note that this new development is not yet reflected on the shop's web site.)
(Eventually this site will have a whole page of bakeries that serve egg-free cakes, muffins, and other baked goods.)
Revising convenience mixes (cakes, pancakes, etc.) that specify eggs so that they're egg-free and delicious. Share your successes, also. (Vegan, please, so the most number of people can enjoy them; so use soy, almond, or rice milk instead of cow's milk, for example.)
Tips: You can find store ground flaxseeds in the refrigerated sections of most health food stores and an increasing number of "regular" grocery stores. For longer shelf life, you can store them in the freezer.
